In this second of ten fitness commandments, I want to discuss consistent persistence. Being consistent with anything means we continue to do an activity over time. Persistence means we are willing to continue despite difficulty. So, bridging those two words together is to say we are willing to continue doing our task, skill, or activity over the long term despite it being difficult.
In the last post I discussed making and keeping a decision to change. It is one thing to decide we will do something, however when difficulty presents itself, do we have the internal drive to maintain that decision? This ties in with being consistently persistent as once we have made the decision to change, we need to commit to that decision day every day. When life presents situations that make holding to a decision more difficult, we must persist anyways! Despite difficulties, do we have what it takes to peruse the decision we made to love and care for our physical being through a daily habit to move our bodies a little or a lot? Can we stick to eating clean foods that support our new-found mission of health and fitness? Can we be vulnerable and work on the emotional and mental parts of ourselves that need work?
Life is not always rainbows and butterflies! Sometimes, it is thunderstorms and sharks! easy! When it feels like the world is closing in and it feels like the world is getting darker and there is no way out, we remind ourselves that it is in these moments that we sharpen our minds ability to overcome.
The gym has always been my safe place. A place to go work off the stress, think through my problems, and regain self-confidence. By giving myself this gift of health and fitness, I am can find new ideas and solutions to problems that help me regain a sense of myself and make decisions that eventually serve me well!
Be consistent, Be persistent. Every day. Doing so will help sharpen your mind as you pave your fitness path!
Action Step:
Set a small goal for yourself. Find something that you enjoy or would like to try. Then set micro steps that need to be accomplished in order for you to accomplish the whole task. Breaking things down into smaller pieces will help develop this idea of being consistently persistent as it lends itself to a larger goal that is in mind for you.
